8 TIPS FOR STARTING SCHOOL LIKE A BOSS

30/08/2016

The start of the new school year is just around the corner! I can't believe that summer is already gone - where did it go?! Three months of working went by so fast...

I felt like I needed to remind myself of the things that make the start of the semester good and also hand out some tips on how to start the year right. Here we go!

1. Attitude is everything – school is not a punishment. You are lucky to be receiving an education and you probably should be excited for the upcoming semester. Think about all the cool stuff you are going to learn and/or where learning all that (not so) cool stuff will going to take you in life. There is a positive angle to everything.

2. Get a good planner – it makes your life easier. Find out what works for you and invest some money into a good planner. If you can’t find one you like, try out bullet journaling. You get to be creative and you can find tons of inspiration online.

3. Choose classes that excite you – in addition to those obligatory classes you have to take, try to fit in something that gets you excited. Something that interests you no matter what. I’m taking a literature class in comics even when I know I’m probably not going to need it.

4. Be reasonable with your study load – choose enough classes but not too much. You can get excited about school but remember, if you want to get good grades, you have to have time to study for exams and write essays and so on. Choose wisely and remember, there is always next semester.

5. Make a playlist – compile a playlist for the journey to school and back. Something to get you energized and your brain ready for learning. I’m sharing mine in the upcoming weeks so stay tuned for that!

6. Balance school with something that you love – a hobby, a creative outlet, something to take your mind off from studying. Personally, I’ve been loving aerial yoga this summer and I am going to stick with it this fall. Keeping a journal, painting, having a personal blog, it can be anything as long as it helps you unwind.

7. Keep your ultimate goal in mind – when you feel like all that studying is just too much, keep in mind why you are doing it all. Do you want to get into a good master’s program? Do you want to be rich when you’re 30? Do you want to cure cancer? Tackle global warming? Stay focused. (I really want to get into a super good graduate program and one day have a Ph.D. That’s my ultimate goal.)

8. Just breathe – you are alive, you are breathing, you are here. That is something to celebrate. Think about that when everything else sucks.

I hope your school year starts off good. Happy studying!

HOW TO PICK YOURSELF UP AFTER A CRAPPY WEEK

04/08/2016

Make some tea and enjoy it without any distractions

Read your favorite book (my recommendation)

Listen to some upbeat music (here's a good song)

Call a friend and rant. Then let it go

Cook something you have been craving for a long time (pancakes!)

Take a nap and wake up with a clearer mind

Meditate (or try to learn how to meditate)

Put your phone away and focus on the people around you

Eat some ice-cream

Open the window and just breathe

Tell yourself that everything is going to be alright

And finally, if you just told yourself that everything's going to be okay but you didn't quite believe yourself, I am going to help you: everything is going to be alright.

You are wonderful, amazing, and you deserve to be happy.
